Darth Vader is Randy Charles Johnson's favorite Star Wars character and the subject of several videos. In two near-identical uploads, Randy discusses whether early audiences believed Vader was a robot before The Empire Strikes Back revealed the back of his head.

Robot misconception

Randy says he always understood that Vader was not a robot because he could hear him breathe. He contrasts this with his own childhood misunderstanding: when he first watched A New Hope in 1978, he temporarily believed the helmeted stormtroopers were robots.
